Frequently asked questions

When can I book my first session?

We are recruiting our first Korean hosts now. Waitlist members will be invited first, by email, as soon as booking opens — with an early-member discount.

What is the difference between a Buddy and a Teacher?

A Buddy is a verified everyday Korean for a relaxed 25-minute chat. A Teacher holds a Korean-teacher certificate or has teaching experience and gives structured 50-minute lessons.

How much will it cost?

Buddies plan to charge $8–12 per 25 minutes, Teachers $15–30 per 50 minutes. Each host sets a price within the band. There is no extra learner fee.

I am a total beginner. Is that okay?

Yes. Many Teachers can explain in English or other languages. Choose 'Teacher' and your level in the waitlist form so we can match you well.

How do you verify hosts?

Hosts pass an identity check and a short video interview. Teachers also show their certificate or experience. Kids-safe Teachers additionally consent to a criminal record check.

Can teenagers and children join?

Yes, with extra safeguards. Under-14s need a parent or guardian's consent. Learners under 18 are matched only with Kids-safe Teachers, all sessions stay in our video room, and guardians receive lesson notifications.

Do I need Zoom, Skype or KakaoTalk?

No. Sessions run in our own browser-based video room. For your safety, sharing contact details or moving to other apps is not allowed.

Are sessions recorded?

Only if you choose it. When you sign up you can opt in once (it's optional); recording then switches on only when your host has opted in too. It is voice only, a “Recording” sign is always shown, you can turn it off for any session, and the audio is deleted after 30 days. Video is never recorded.

What happens with my waitlist information?

We use it only to invite you at launch and to recruit hosts that fit learners' needs. We do not sell it. You can ask us to delete it anytime.

Which countries can join?

We plan to start with learners in Asia, the Americas and Oceania. Learners in the EU may need to wait a little longer while we set up local tax handling.

What is the AI workbook, and what happens to my data?

If you opt in to recording, AI turns each session into a personal workbook: phrases you used, corrections, new words and a quiz. The workbook stays with you; the audio is deleted after 30 days. Separately, you may let us use de-identified transcripts to improve the service and AI, in return for a free lesson each month or a discount. Both choices are optional and can be turned off or deleted anytime in settings. For under-18s, a parent or guardian decides.
